My UPS Package Tracking page says "out for delivery" ... sweeeeeet ... oh! the anticipation! the smell of fresh professional film! mmmmmmmm just like mama used to bake!
i was again thinking about class today and i realised there were many more reasons why I decided to take this class (besides getting back into a passion of mine). i'm def stoked about meeting new people. it's nice to get out of montgomery(the vsfx building). and I was hoping to get back into critiques that were far more involved and intense. Montgomery is seriously lacking in critiques and feedback which totally baffles me. One day some of us are going to be working at ILM, DD or R&H and some bigshot a-hole vsfx supervisor is going to be leaning over you telling you what to do and if you can't take the heat/feedback now you're certainly going to be fucked when you enter the real world.
Yesterday was the first actual crit and it was great...just like old times at Ithaca College. It was great to be surrounded by so many people eager to give opinions and constructive criticism.
I will admit, out of the work that was put up yesterday nothing really did it for me. A lot of these people seem scared to break free of the traditional stereotypes and cliches. Many seem afraid to think outside the box and merely shot what is closest and most familar to them. Every project yesterday seemed to be some half ass documentary/portrait thing with a tagline like "oh well...i know these people they're my friends or they're my family and I just wanted to shoot them". I did keep an open mind and offered my thoughts on everyones work. It was only the firt crit so I hope everyone will continue to grow and expand.
Being that all these projects yesterday were of people didn't help either...i hate photographing people. let me repeat HATE HATE HATE photographing people. people bore the living fuck out of me.
I will continue the last paragraph later but for now I gotta get ready for class and the day!
